HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach Zt”l
The first spark of the huge Ateres Shlomo network was ignited in 1994, when it opened its first Kollel in Beit Shemesh. Serious avreichim were moving to the city and the desperate need for a high-level kollel encouraged Rav Shalom Ber Sorotzkin shlita to establish a kollel in the city.A few months before the establishment of the kollel, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt"l passed away. The Kollel was named liluy nishmas this great Gadol and, since then, the name "Ateres Shlomo" graces all the network's institutions.
Since then, the name "Ateres Shlomo" graces all the network's institutions.

The fields around Telshesmell like the Ketzos HaChoshen (The Gadol of Minsk)
Looking Back The foundations of this Torah empire are rooted in its magnificent past. Strong, deep roots were planted in the picturesque village of Telshe, Lithuania. Gedolei Olam dedicated themselves to forming the yeshivah model and infused the yeshivah with their splendor and glory.
Maran, Rosh HaYeshiva HaGaon HaRav Eliezer Gordon Zt”l The Founder of the Yeshiva In 1880, Rav Eliezer Gordon arrived in Telshe to serve as Rav. He was immediately placed at the helm of the yeshivah that was established in the city in 1875 by Rav Meir Atlas, Rav Shlomo Zalman Able and Rav Zvi Oppenheim.
Maran HaGaon HaRav Yoseph Yehuda Leib Bloch Zt”l A year after the yeshivah was established, Rav Gordon appointed his son-in-law, Rav Yosef Yehudah Leib Bloch, a talmid of his from Kelm, as ra"m in Telshe. Rav Yosef Yehuda Leib Bloch passed away in 1930.
“Three outstanding generations of gaonim, gedolim, mechanchim and manhigim, labored to build the Telshe Torah empire. Rav Eliezer Gordon molded the foundations and its glorious construction; Rav Yosef Yehuda Leib fashioned its educational and pedagogical approach; and Rav Avraham Yitzchak Bloch, a perfect blend of his father and grandfather, led the yeshivah to the height of its glory."
Maran HaGaon HaRav Shimon Shkop Zt”l In the Yeshivah's first years, HaGaon HaRav Gordon appointed HaGaon HaRav Shimon Shkop, author of Shaarei Yosher, as ra"m.
These three Gedolim, each in his own way, established a unique approach that enriched their students' ability to understand, clarify and be mechadesh. The blend of these three approaches became the basis for the Telshe derech halimud.
Maran HaGaon HaRav Chaim Rabinowitz Zt”l In 1904, Rav Chaim Rabinowitz, known as "Reb Chaim Telzer," replaced Rav Shimon Shkop as ra"m. He paved his own approach to learning and taught talmidim to delve into the meaning of each sugya. He constructed refined definitions for each yesod. The "chakirah" was his forte and he would be choker and take sides in all foundations of the Shas. Many of his chakiros are the building stones studied in yeshivos today.
Maran HaGaon HaKadosh HaRav Abraham Yitzchok Bloch H"yd In 1920, Rav Yosef Yehuda Leib appointed his son, Rav Avraham Yitzchok hy"d, to serve as ra"m in the yeshivah. At the time, Rav Avraham Yitzchok was only about thirty years old.
Maran HaGaon HaRav Eliyahu Meyer Bloch Zt”l Rav Yosef Yehuda Leib also appointed his son Rav Zalman as Mashgiach in the yeshivah and Rav Eliyahu Meir as ra"m.
Rav Eliyahu Meir wrote about his brother: "An ordinary man's greatness is measured by the complete insignificance of everything around him, but my brother, HaGaon HaRav Avraham Yitzchok, was greater than this. In addition to being loftier than everyone around him, he also elevated everyone around him."
Decimation The 20th of Tammuz, 1941, is etched in our history as the day of the brutal murder of the Roshei Yeshivah, talmidim and community of Telshe. Their bodies burned and blackened, but their neshamos ascended lofty heights. ארץ אל תכסי דמם.

The few surviving embers of the yeshivah reestablished Telshe in Cleveland, Ohio. There, in the United States, the lone, surviving flame of the yeshivah world was reignited.
Maran HaGaon HaRav Eliyahu Meyer Bloch Zt"l In 1920, Rav Yosef Yehuda Leib appointed his thirty-year-old son, Rav Avraham Yitzchak hy"d as ra"m in the Yeshiva. He also appointed Rav Zalman as mashgiach and Rav Eliyahu Meir as ra"m. Rav Eliyahu Meir escaped Europe together with his brother-in-law, Rav Chaim Mordechai Katz, and they reignited the fire of Telshe
Maran HaGaon HaRav Chaim Mordechai Katz Zt"l HaGaon HaRav Eliyahu Meir Bloch survived the Holocaust along with his brother-in-law, Rav Chaim Mordechai Katz. In Elul of 1940, the Gaonim reestablished the Telshe Yeshivah in Cleveland.
Maran HaGaon HaRav Mordechai Gifter Zt"l Rav Mordechai Gifter was born in America. In the winter of 1932, his father sold his life insurance policy to buy his son a ticket to Lithuania, so he could learn Torah in the Telshe Yeshivah. Rav Gifter was a very close talmid of Rav Avraham Yitzchak hy"d. When the yeshivah was reestablished in Cleveland, Rav Mordechai Gifter moved there to serve as ra"m. In 1961, he was appointed Rosh Yeshivah. In 1976, HaGaon HaRav Mordechai Gifter moved to Eretz Yisroel and established the yeshivah in Telzstone. In 1979, after the death of Rav Baruch Sorotzkin, the Steipler advised Rav Gifter to return to the United States, where he served as Rosh Yeshivah in Cleveland until his passing. In addition to his role as Rosh Yeshivah, Rav Mordechai Gifter was involved in communal affairs. He was particularly involved with Agudas Yisroel, Chinuch Atzmai and Torah U'Mesorah. He was also a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah.
Maran HaGaon HaRav Boroch Sorotzkin Zt"l When the Second World War broke out, Rav Baruch Sorotzkin fled from the Kaminetz Yeshivah to Vilna, where he joined the Telshe Yeshivah. Six months later, with the blessing of his parents who were already in Eretz Yisroel, he became engaged to Rochel, the daughter of his cousin, Rav Avraham Yitzchok. Two weeks after his marriage, he fled to Japan via the Trans-Siberian railroad. The Japanese then forced the refugees to move to Shanghai, from where Rav Boruch eventually emigrated to the United States. In 1965, Rav Baruch Sorotzkin was appointed Rosh Yeshivah in the Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland. He was a prominent Torah leader in the United States and was a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah.
Maran HaGaon HaRav Isaac Ozband Zt"l Rav Eizik Ausband was a close talmid of Rav Avraham Yitzchok in Telshe and eventually became his son-in-law. When the war broke out, he fled with a group of talmidim to Russia and then Siberia, where he spent the war years. After the war, Rav Ausband was appointed Rav of Vilna. After his marriage, he moved to the United States. As soon as he arrived in Cleveland, he started giving shiurim in the Telshe Yeshivah. At first, he gave shiur in the high school and later in the Yeshivah Gedolah. He was also a posek for the Cleveland Jewish community.

The Yeshivah's Rabbanim in Eretz Yisroel
The Roshei Yeshivah and rabbanim carry the torch of the mesorah for future generations. Like the amud ha'ish, the pillar of fire that walked in front of the camp, they pave the way and direct the yeshivah. They are role models of Torah toil, with amkus and charifus. With their talks and divrei Torah, they transmit the yeshivah's unique derech halimud and hanhagah and elevate the bachurim to lofty Torah heights. Yeshivas Ateres Shlomo is privileged to be headed by Roshei Yeshivah who are admired and famed throughout the Torah world.
